A LITTLE ABOUT US

Our mission is simple:
Help you fulfill your potential no matter what level of runner you are. How?
We join the dots for you by making sure that your life, your mindset and your training are optomised to reach your goals. Oh and of course, with a dose of good ol' fashioned hard work!

WHO ARE WE?

Join The Dots Coaching is the brain child of husband and wife team Jamie and Gemma Killeen. While Jamie is the mind, body and sole behind Join The Dots Coaching, Gemma is the mind, body and soul of the operation! In true 'Pinky and the Brain' style Jamie will be your dedicated running coach while Gemma will provide plenty of inspiration to fuel your running dreams. With 4 year old twins, we know how difficult it can be to fit running, work and family into your life. Find out more about each of us below.

COACH JAMIE

I'm a run coach based in Dublin, Ireland. I've years of experience at all distances from the mile to 24 hour races both in Ireland and further afield. I've experienced the highs of winning races, getting that personal best or travelling abroad to run a marquee race. I've also had tough experiences, ending up in hospital after crashing out of the Chicago Marathon just a mile from the end, missing out on PB's after months of training, and having off days like everyone else.  Running is central to my life – I run to and from work, run my kids in the double buggy to crèche, our family even runs together. I like to run to improve myself, but also to improve others. Over the years, I’ve paced hundreds if not thousands of runners to their goals in numerous marathons, half marathons, and 5K road races. The sense of satisfaction in motivating people to reach the time they deserve and have trained hard for is the ultimate satisfaction for me.

In 2013, I set up St. Anne’s parkrun, Dublin, Ireland, which over the past 5 years, has become the second largest parkrun in Ireland and the course which holds both the male and female Irish parkrun records. In 2017, this spawned St. Anne’s junior parkrun, which looks towards the next generation of athletes. I also head up the wellbeing programme in my day job, which has 3 streams - mind, body and career/community. Through this programme, I run weekly lunchtime running sessions and seminars on running.

I have young kids (twins, almost 4 years old) and a busy – but fulfilling – life. I’ve had to adapt my training to pursue my passion of running. I’ve learned to use my time a bit more wisely, that early mornings can be my friend rather than my nemesis, and that active recovery – i.e. chasing around after kids, benefits me in the long run. I have lowered my personal best times across all distances over the past 4 years, despite having reduced time available to train, less sleep, and generally more pressures on me. I think anyone can do this with the right guidance, and I want to help you to achieve it.

GEMMA

I'm passionate about helping people being the best version of themselves, no matter what their talent or their goal. I truly believe no matter what we set our mind to we are capable of achieving it. That Steve Harvey quote springs to mind  'if you can see it in your mind you can hold it on your hand'. That applies to you too. First you must see those running goals as being achieved in your mind and then, begin the work necessary to bring them into reality.

As a runner, I have completed two marathons, numerous 5K, 10K, 10 mile and half marathons from Dublin to Toronto. I have completed trail races and two triathlons. I also competed as part of a 4 man/woman relay team in the Irish 24 hour championships running for 6 hours in total over the 24 hour period.

I look forward to helping you reach your potential and beyond.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT JOIN THE DOTS COACHING?

We help you achieve balance in your life, and get sustained results.

Drawing on our years of experience we set up personalised training/coaching plans, to get the most out of your time spent running. We help you balance training with everything else you have happening in your life. Sometimes this means looking at things from a less technical perspective. Often a more passionate approach to running can help break through boundaries and inspire you to cross that finish line. We look at running as part of your life, a complementary and value added aspect, rather than something that should lead you to sacrifice your life, family or work.

A story often says it better

In 2016, we took on a 24 hour race, a mere year and a half after our twins were born, having had no experience of this type of distance we drew up a plan for the race, a plan for our training, and drew on our internal resources and abilities to achieve this target. With determination, dedication, training, a fabulous crew, a wonderful relay team and of course a babysitter we reached our goal.

How did we do?

Jamie covered 120 miles (193km) of running during the 24 hours while Gemma completed 6 hours of running as part of the relay team. We raised over €6,000 for charity inspired by our daughter who had to undergo heart surgery at 6 weeks of age.

'What the mind can believe it can achieve.'

This can be you. It doesn’t have to be 24 hours – it can be 5K, a 10K or a marathon.

You choose the goal and let us be your coach by your side.
